My name is Alicia Larade, and I am the principal here at École St. Joseph. I have been with Yellowknife Catholic Schools for 18 years, including 10 years in administration. Though I’m originally from Nova Scotia, the North has been my home for over two decades. I love being part of the YCS family and seeing our students thrive in a Catholic learning environment. Outside of school hours, you’ll likely find me staying active and exploring the outdoors. I am committed to making Ecole St. Joseph a place where every student feels welcome and inspired.

I arrived in Yellowknife from Newfoundland in 1991, intending to stay for just two years, like many others. I’m happy to say I didn’t stick to that plan! As a Core French teacher, I dedicated 27 years to teaching at École St Patrick High School (ÉSPHS), and spent three more years as the Assistant Principal. I take great pride in having been the teacher-advisor for the ÉSPHS Students Against Drinking and Driving (SADD) for 27 years. Five years ago, I joined École St. Joseph School as an Assistant Principal, and I immediately fell in love with the kids. Currently, I am proud to lead our Husky Helpers program. I will be retiring in June 2026 and returning to Newfoundland after what has been a deeply rewarding “two years” in the North.

Born and raised in the Northwest Territories, I moved to the capital of Yellowknife at the age of three and am grateful to have grown up in the North. I hold a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary, and I am currently completing a Master’s in Educational Leadership. I began my career with Yellowknife Catholic Schools in 2012, spending seven years at Weledeh Catholic School as a classroom teacher and Leadership and Resiliency Program (Do Edaizheh) facilitator. In 2019, I joined the Board Office as Regional Indigenous Language and Education Coordinator, supporting Indigenous language, culture, and education across YCS schools. This year marks my first year as Assistant Principal at École St. Joseph School. I am passionate about inclusive, culturally responsive education, relationship-based learning, and supporting students in becoming confident, resilient, and kind individuals within a faith-filled school community.
