Grade 6/7 Options
Grade 6/7 Options Program
At our school, we believe that middle school is the perfect time for students to step out of their comfort zones and discover what truly excites them. Our Grade 6/7 Options Block is a dedicated space in the weekly schedule designed for exactly that: exploration, movement, and hands-on learning.
What is the Options Block?
The Options Block allows students to rotate through various interest-based sessions throughout the school year. Rather than sticking to one elective, students get a "tasting menu" of different activities, helping them build new skills and meet peers who share similar passions.
Our current offerings provide a diverse mix of strategy, technology, and physical wellness:
The Maker Space: A hub for creativity and engineering! Students can design, build, and prototype using a variety of tools and materials.
Mind & Strategy: Engage in high-level thinking with Chess or dive into the digital world with Video Game Creation.
Team Sports: Build teamwork and coordination through Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer.
Specialty Movement: Experience the discipline of Judo, the mindfulness of Yoga, or the cultural significance of Traditional Games.
Why Options Matter: The Benefits
This program is more than just a break from traditional desk work; it is a vital part of our students' holistic development. By participating in the Options Block, students benefit from:
Self-Discovery: Students often find hidden talents in activities they might never have tried otherwise.
Physical & Mental Well-being: From the high energy of soccer to the calm focus of yoga, students learn different ways to manage stress and stay active.
Social Growth: These sessions break down classroom walls, allowing Grade 6 and 7 students to collaborate and build community.
Innovation & Grit: In the Maker Space and Game Creation, students learn that "failure" is just a first draft. They practice persistence as they troubleshoot and refine their projects.
The Options Block is where curiosity meets opportunity. It’s about giving our students the tools to find their 'spark' while building a well-rounded foundation for the years to come.
